What layout choices buy you space?
- Hit across the bay, not down it. Garages are usually wider than they are deep once the door is factored in. Turning the hitting line diagonally or across the bay can add usable depth for a behind-ball unit — check the monitor’s alignment guidance, since some units want a squared-up target line.
- Choose a net over a screen while space is tight. A net stands closer to the ball than a projector-and-screen build wants to, works with every monitor, and moves the picture to a device you already own. The screen can come later; the numbers are the same.
- Put the mat where the ceiling is highest. The clearance that matters is over your hands at the top of the swing, which is usually behind and above the ball — often that means hitting away from the door track rather than under it.
- Consider the ceiling for the sensor, too. Overhead units need both the recorded minimum ceiling and a permanent mount; if the garage stays a garage (car in winter, sim at night), a portable unit you can pack away wins on practicality.
